Quipu Group and TLC Launch New eCARD Integration for Library•Solution Customers

Quipu Group LLC, a library technology company, has partnered with The Library Corporation (TLC), a leading supplier of integrated library systems and services, to develop new patron registration and update APIs. TLC’s newly created LibrarySolution APIs support seamless integration with Quipu Group’s eCARD online registration services, providing verified online card registration for LibrarySolution customers. Justin Duewel-Zahniser, TLC’s Chief Technology Officer shared, “It was a pleasure working with Quipu Group on behalf of our mutual customer, Warren County Library. We partnered closely on the initial integration development and testing, and are excited for the benefit this will bring to Warren County, and to our other mutual customers going forward.”

With eCARD, library patrons have easy access to library card self-registration, using Quipu’s intuitive online registration from the library’s website with the option to use on their in-library computers. Quipu’s eCARD system verifies and standardizes address information entered by the patron in real time for addresses in the U.S. and Canada. Once verified, a patron record is created in the LibrarySolution integrated library system and available for immediate use.

“We have enjoyed our development partnership with The Library Corporation (TLC) this past year and over the past decade. We found Justin Duewel-Zahniser and his team to be extremely collaborative and innovative. We love partnering with TLC, a company that shares Quipu’s values for providing excellence in customer services and software,” shared Robert Anderson, Quipu Partner.

In the past, the Quipu Group and TLC partnered to develop full-featured APIs that allow for seamless integration between Quipu’s eCARD product and TLC’s CARLSolution. CARLSolution integrations include Contra Costa County Library (CA), Los Angeles Public Library (CA), Metropolitan Library System (OK), Monroe County Library System (NY), Solano County Library (CA), and Wellington City Libraries in New Zealand.

Bryan + College Station Library Migrates to TLC for Efficiency and Security

The Library Corporation (TLC) is pleased to announce the recent implementation of LibrarySolution for Bryan + College Station Public Library System (BCS). TLC completed the migration services for the three-site library system from their Polaris integrated library system earlier this month.

BCS serves a population of approximately 200,000 residents across the twin cities of Bryan and College Station in the Brazos Valley of Texas — including a collection of over 172,000 titles and more than 210,000 items.

In addition to the integrated library system and support services provided by TLC, BCS has implemented TLC•Cloud Services underpinned by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, as well as enriched OPAC services via Syndetics Unbound, and TLC’s ITSMARC subscription service for bibliographic and authority records.

Two main factors that played into the decision included cost effectiveness and increased efficiencies. The library website shared: “This change will result in cost savings, increase workflow efficiencies, and allow us to move to a cloud-based platform.” LibrarySolution’s seamless ebook integration service “will allow us to manage both print and online resources within one system. This greatly simplifies our work to make our online collections available.”

Another important factor apparent in the library’s decision to migrate included an emphasis on cybersecurity. BCS evaluated a number of cybersecurity factors — including overall security posture, data storage in the U.S. with regular and two-way encrypted backups, offsite backups, regular penetration testing, frequency of software updates, server hardening, regular security patching of servers, and personnel training in security. “Of the 6 or 7 vendors that we looked at,” stated Wendell Gragg, the Automation Services Supervisor at BCS, “TLC was superior to the other products.”

“TLC does not treat security as an afterthought,” shared Annette Murphy, CEO of TLC. “We are glad to welcome Bryan + College Station Public Library System into the TLC family, and we look forward to hosting the library for many years to come.”

Bryan + College Station Public Library System’s enriched and cloud hosted catalog can be viewed at bcslibrary.tlcdelivers.com. For more information on LibrarySolution, please visit TLCdelivers.com or speak to a representative at sales@tlcdelivers.com.

The Library Corporation (TLC) welcomes the return of another former customer to LibrarySolution. J. In addition to the integrated library system and support services provided by TLC, JRJML has also implemented enriched OPAC services via Syndetics Unbound and will be utilizing TLC’s ITSMARC subscription service for bibliographic and authority records.

“After 7 years away, the J. Robert Jamerson Memorial Library is excited to be a returning TLC library partner,” stated Diana Harvey, Director for J. Robert Jamerson Memorial Library. “As an organization we feel that TLC will provide a modern and easy to navigate Public Access Catalog to our community as well as excellent customer service to our staff.”

Annette Murphy, TLC’s CEO and founder, was pleased to welcome back the library and shared, “J. Robert Jamerson marks the fourth library this year to return to the TLC family, and we look forward to supporting them for many more years to come.”

Medaille College Returns to the TLC Family

Students are not the only ones returning home this summer, as Medaille College returns to The Library Corporation (TLC) for the first time since 2008. Medaille College recently implemented LibrarySolution (LS), TLC’s 100% web-based Library Management System.

Located in Buffalo and Rochester, NY, Medaille College prides itself on preparing their students for a lifelong commitment to civic sustainability and professional success through a well-rounded education that extends beyond the four walls of the classroom. “Buffalo’s College,” Medaille has over 2,000 students and offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

After using III during their TLC “sabbatical,” Medaille College returns to TLC using a completely different LibrarySolution platform than the one they may have remembered: no longer client-based, no longer code-based metadata editing, a new powerful reports module powered by IBM Cognos Analytics, new cloud services powered by OCI, and so much more. Although Medaille College was a previous LS customer, they are experiencing an entirely new, modern system.

Following recommended health guidelines and TLC’s current process, the implementation and training were achieved remotely without any falter in quality. Medaille College staff commented on how smooth the transition process was.

For more information on implementing LibrarySolution, please visit TLCdelivers.com or speak to a representative at sales@tlcdelivers.com.

The Library Corporation Implements First Library•Solution Version 5.x in the Philippines

Earlier this month, Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) upgraded their LibrarySolution library management software to version 5.6.3 — part of the next-generation 5.x series. ADDU is the first library in the Philippines using LibrarySolution Version 5.x as their Library Management System.

Ateneo De Davao University is located in Davao City in the Philippines, the most populous city in Mindanao. The University library serves approximately 6,000 students and 1,000 faculty, admin, and staff on campus, and the library system is also used by students and faculty in the area grade schools, high schools, and senior high schools.

With a wide array of borrowers using their library system, ADDU appreciates that the functionality in LibrarySolution accommodates everyone’s needs. Fretzie F. Alfaro-Fajardo, the Director for Libraries and AV Center of ADDU, said the library staff and their patrons are very happy because of the system’s ease of use. Not only does the community benefit from the software’s ease-of-use, but librarians noted a distinct benefit as well with improved access to the platform. “The web-based modules in LS5.x are ideal for our work-from-home set-up due to the pandemic,” shared Dennis Moldes, the Miguel Pro Learning Commons In-Charge.

The LibrarySolution upgrade was carefully planned and required a high-level of preparation by the library staff and TLC. Even so, the migration to version 5.x was fast and successful, and Moldes shared that the librarians encountered no major problems post-migration: “The TLC tech support was prompt in addressing our issues and concerns despite the time zone difference.” The latest upgrade also included modifications the library had requested  TLC to improve library processes.

ADDU has been a TLC customer since 2013 and was not surprised by TLC’s level of service during the upgrade. Library staff frequently take advantage of the online customer support and community portal, LSCommunity, to first check tutorials and documentation readily available to help them immediately resolve some issues before contacting support. And when librarians do need to reach out, “TLC’s technical support is commendable,” said Alfaro-Fajardo. “The library staff get a response within 24 hours after creating tickets for our concerns and issues encountered. We also receive clear and concise instructions on what to do if the issues need to be resolved on our end.”

For more information on LibrarySolution version 5.x, please reach out at sales@TLCdelivers.com or visit TLCdelivers.com/library-solution.

Lodi Public Library joined The Library Corporation’s (TLC) family of customers

Lodi Public Library recently implemented LibrarySolution™ and joined The Library Corporation (TLC) and its family of customers.

Lodi is a city located in San Joaquin County, California, just north of Stockton, California. With a population approaching 70,000 residents, Lodi may be best known for its 100,000 acres of grapes or its titular reference in a Creedence Clearwater Revival song. But to the city’s residents, its new Library Management System will also be a noteworthy advantage.

A library committed to securing for their residents a system that offers stability in addition to expanding access to material, Lodi Public Library saw the potential LibrarySolution™ had to offer their community. Moving from a system that experienced constant downtime issues, Lodi Public Library felt that LibrarySolution™ offered a platform that would provide consistent service to their borrowers. During the decision-making process, many Lodi Public Library staff members noted the benefits LS2 Kids, TLC’s award-winning Kids PAC, would offer their borrowers. According to Yvette Herrera, the Library’s Circulation Manager, “Patrons are love, love, loving the PAC! Love the pictures, love the AR & Lexile integration.”

Lodi Public Library is also the first LibrarySolution™ customer to utilize INN-Reach, a resource sharing tool that allows libraries to lend and borrow resources between other libraries and systems, regardless of library management platform. “TLC is a company that prides itself on its ability to work with multiple companies,” stated TLC’s Director of Marketing Strategy, Jamison Reynolds. “The more technology options a library can offer, the better for the borrowers.”

About The Library Corporation
TLC has operated continuously under the same ownership since 1974 and employs over 200 people dedicated to delivering enterprise software and hardware solutions to public, school, academic, and special libraries worldwide.
