TLC Congratulates the Nashville Public Library as 2017 Library of the Year
The Library Corporation (TLC) is pleased to congratulate the Nashville Public Library (NPL) on being named the 2017 Gale/Library Journal Library of the Year. NPL, an upcoming member of the TLC family, is being recognized for its service to their community, creativity and innovation in developing specific community programs, an increase in library usage, and leadership in creating programs that can be emulated by other libraries. The competitive process that began with close to 25 entrants was narrowed down by staff members from the Library Journal and Gale, a Cengage company, as well as the previous year’s Library of the Year award recipient.
NPL is being honored for their efforts to identify and meet the needs of their community. The focus they place on education and local student access is unprecedented. The Bringing Books to Life outreach and Puppet Truck mobile storytelling programs are two such incredible examples. Further, their ground breaking Limitless Libraries partnership really shines. According to their website, “Limitless Libraries is a cooperative program of the Nashville Public Library and the Metro Nashville Public Schools with the goal of improving school libraries, fostering resource sharing between the two institutions, and improving access to learning materials.” TLC has been a proud supporter of this highly successful program through the Metro Schools longtime use of the Library•Solution for Schools automation system. The company looks forward to continuing this journey as the Metro Schools and Nashville Public Library migrate to the CARL•X integrated library system this summer. TLC’s commitment to mobility and innovation, reputation for excellent customer service, and focused development partnerships made them the clear ILS choice for this award winning library system.
Adult education opportunities are also paramount to NPL’s goal of reaching a broad and diverse audience. Programs supporting digital literacy, health and wellness activities, and financial education are just a few that exemplify this reach. “We are thrilled that our friends at the Nashville Public Library are receiving this well-deserved award and have been recognized by the Library Journal, Gale Cengage, and their peers as the 2017 Library of the Year. We are equally appreciative that NPS has selected CARL•X to help them continue delivering the best possible library services to their communities moving forward,” shared Annette Harwood Murphy, Co-founder, President/CEO of TLC. “Please join me in saluting this wonderful achievement! Nashville Public Library is indeed a model for others.”
