TLC’s CARL•Connect Receives Gold in 2017 Modern Library Awards from LibraryWorks
The Library Corporation is pleased to announce that CARL•Connect has received a gold award in LibraryWorks’ third annual Modern Library Awards (MLA’s) for its Mobile Discovery platform. Setting itself apart with its ability to connect users with library services and engage with the social-local-mobile (SoLoMo) movement, CARL•Connect Discovery Mobile meets the needs of a growing “always on, always in touch” population. Released in 2016, CARL•Connect Discovery Mobile was designed with a sleek, responsive platform that dynamically directs users to a mobile version of the online catalog on any smartphone. It also provides a host of preeminent features that allow for a more local and personalized experience. Some of these include geolocation services, opt-in and notification, mobile app offerings, personalized reading recommendations, and access to a Digital Library Card.
The MLA’s were created to recognize the top products and services in the library industry in a truly unbiased format. Products and services were submitted in the fall using a simple application, and then were posted on a private site with an enhanced description and attendant materials. These products were batched into small groups and sent to the LibraryWorks database of more than 800,000 librarians at public, K-12, academic and special libraries. Only customers with experience with these products and services in their libraries were permitted to judge them, resulting in a truly unbiased score. Each judge scored CARL•Connect Discovery Mobile on a numeric basis from 1-10 on a series of questions regarding functionality, value, customer service etc.
“We are thrilled that our library customers’ experience with the CARL•Connect Discovery Mobile platform has allowed them to provide their end users with features that they have come to depend on in their mobile lives. We thank our customers and LibraryWorks for honoring TLC with a gold Modern Library Award and we look forward to continuing with this momentum,” shared Paul Leppert, Managing Vice President of TLC’s Denver Office.
Jenny Newman, publisher and MLA program manager said, “TLC has been known for bringing leading-edge technologies to the industry since their company began over 40 years ago. It’s no surprise that CARL•Connect Discovery Mobile scored so well.”
